Adhesives
For the last 50-100 years the progress in adhesive and sealant field is very explosive and continue to increase. Even at present it is the practice to classify adhesives and sealants by many signs: by application field, by polymer type, by availability or absence of solvent, by cure mode etc.
So an ultimate consumer has two ways. The first one is to make an effort and choose an adhesive type himself. The second is to afford the specialist a right to choose materials according to your so – called technical task. If you preferred the second way, you should remember that there are no universal adhesives for all the life cases. Statements like "adhesive for wood" or "adhesive for rubber" throw you back to the times of development of sealing-wax.
It is explained by the fact that most of polymeric materials have their own level of base properties, which determines the application field thereof. Modern and professional adhesives or sealants are materials adapted fully to concrete application field, concrete technical task, designed technology of application thereof. And base properties only of modern professional adhesives and sealants determine their second fields of use.
About this base level of properties, fields of application and about some possibilities of one or other material we shall say further.
| One-packed fast-curing adhesives |
|
Low-viscous one-packed adhesives | Heat-resistant adhesives | Structural one-packed adhesives | Current conductive adhesives |
| Adhesives based on epoxy resins containing solvent systems, rheology additives, adhesion promoters, curing system. Solvent-free. Supplied in readiness for use and they have long-term shelf life and high cure rate (10-40 min) at moderate temperatures (120-150 ˚C) as well as high strength characteristics. |
| Adhesives-solutions |
| Adhesives-solutions are the most known and widespread types of adhesives. This is both known everybody PVA-adhesive, wide range of so-called “rubber adhesives”, and adhesives-solvents, based on phenolformaldehyde resins, which provides high strength characteristics and reliable service at temperatures up to 350 ˚C. |
| Adhesives of cold cure |
| There are many who mistakenly considers that epoxy resin ED-20 type (which is an initial raw material) being blended with hardener of cold cure, presents adhesive or compound. So we specify immediately that under epoxy adhesives of cold cure we mean materials based on epoxy resins containing fitted system of modifiers, adhesion components and if necessary, fillers. |
